December 7th: Echoes of the Past, A Promise for the Future
2025-12-07

Today, on this solemn anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, our hearts turn to the thousands of families whose lives were forever changed.
For us, this day is personal.
Among those remembered is the grandfather of our Board Member, Bethany Glenn, who gave his life on this very day. His story -and the stories of countless others- reminds us that war leaves echoes that reach across generations.
When we look back on December 7th, we do more than recall a moment in history.
We remember the loved ones who never came home.
We remember the families who carried their absence in silence.
And we honor the courage, the sacrifice, and the humanity on every side of that tragedy.
We remember the loved ones who never came home.
We remember the families who carried their absence in silence.
And we honor the courage, the sacrifice, and the humanity on every side of that tragedy.
The video below captures the emotional truth that binds us all:

That grief knows no borders.
That love survives time and conflict.
And that reconciliation is a choice we must make, again and again.

That grief knows no borders.
That love survives time and conflict.
And that reconciliation is a choice we must make, again and again.
At OBON SOCIETY, we make that choice every day.
By returning personal items to families in Japan—items carried into war and held close to the heart—we restore dignity, reconnect families with their ancestors, and bring healing where war once left only separation.
Each return is a quiet, powerful promise:
That we will remember the past.
That we will honor every family touched by loss.
And that together, we will build a future defined not by conflict, but by compassion.
That we will remember the past.
That we will honor every family touched by loss.
And that together, we will build a future defined not by conflict, but by compassion.
May this day touch us deeply, guide us gently, and remind us of the humanity we all share.
